Default whole meal worms - 10-02-2008, 02:04 PM

I have just read this

I would not recommend that normal meal worms be feed to Leos, eaten whole they can dig their way out again through you lizards stomach which is really bad news!

from - http://www.leopardgeckosandthat.co.uk/Gecko%20info.htm

I have gone and bought meal worms! Is this true and should I chop them or something!?

no, that is a myth, i mean seriously, if that had any truth do you think the top breeders/experts would feed their leos mealies (which they do)

its a myth that has been circuling for a long time, yet there isnt a single person with evidance that it has happened!

if its true, wheres the proof? where it comes from is people finding dead animals with mealings sticking out their stomaches, however what had happend is the gecko dies for what ever reason and an opptunist mealie wanding about started to much on it (like they do) and was eating it way IN, not OUT

at end of day tho there is no proof either way, all you can do is make your own mind up, i personall feed all mine mealies, they do get other food as well but they always got some mealies in viv at all times for when they want to much at their leasure.

thanks for your reply. I did think it was a bit strange. I had also heard that its safe to leave meal worms in the viv at all times so thanks for backing that up, just put a few in now.

No chance of a Mealie eating its way out, the acid in the lizards stomach just kills it so dont worry.

What a load of bull!

yes its safe to leave them in, as long as they are in a dish they cannot get out of, if any loose you will need to take out as they could still nibble on you rep while they sleep ect
