Default unactive gecko - 11-02-2008, 11:37 PM

hi i got my gecko Quentin on Friday and all it seems to do is stay in its hide now i know they are nocturnal animals but even at night he doesn't seem like moving around too much he comes out eats abit and goes over to the warm end just wondering if this is normal? My house mate also bought a gecko of his own and his is wandering around and exploring even in the day! Whereas mine just sits in the same spot. After reading previous posts i know that they take a while to settle in but its just the comparison between the two is worrying. Also whenever i do come/move around the room and on the off chance that he is out of his hide he looks at me and scurries back into his hide how do i remedy this, i don't want my gecko being afraid of me?

any help will be much appreciated

I'd imagine it is still nervous in its new home. Some respond better to being moved than others and calm down quicker.

I'd let it settle in for a while longer, after a week or so i'd start trying to get it used to you by placing your hand flat on the tank for 5 minutes each day before feeding. Eventually your gecko will come over, have a sniff and maybe a lick of your hand and then walk on it. You can then lift the gecko off the vivarium floor a few inches and eventually take it out properly.
