Default two together? - 27-02-2008, 01:12 PM

hi,
i know that you can't put 2 males together but does anybody know if i can put a younger (smaller)female gecko in with my 1 year old male gecko ? also he seems to have gone off his food? so i have just bought some different meal worms and also doesn't seem to open his eyes as much? seems to not see the food like he used to?

thanks

I'd not recommend it, they should be of the same size. Its likely that the Male would constantly harrass the smaller female leaving her stressed.

it is only recomended to keep leos together that are nearly the smae size/weight
if you need a home for a juvi then a faurnarium is ideal for her until she grows
dont forget that quarentine is a must with new reptiles to make sure they dont pass anything on to the rest of your collection
So a Faurnarium would be the best option

ok thanks very much.
i prob won't get another one as i was only thinking of getting one as company for him. he seems to be off his food still? having trouble getting him to eat even though i've given him a choice of 3 different foods! i leave meal worms in a dish but do generally hand feed her. still shedding skin about every 3 weeks and has fat old tail. noticed a small lump on the side of his face though, bit red? should i be worried or maybe just caught it whilst rubbing himself getting skin off. any ideas?

What set up do you have him in substrate ?
Temps size thermostat etc?

It could be a bite off a mealie or cricket can you get a picture of it?

Also he may be off his food because its breeding season

i use kitchen roll as i was told that would be better and the temp is around 90 where the heat mat is. its large enough (30"x 12"x12" roughly) to have a cool end which i put another house linned with kitchen roll paper and dampen for when he's about to shed.
i was wondering if mealie may have nibled him as i think the larger ones can get out of the dish so i don't leave them in there now, just the smaller ones. don't do crickets anymore as they creep me out! smelly things too. also put vitamin powder in dish.
i haven't got a clue how to add pic's? i'l get my son to do it when he gets home.

set up sounds perfect so no worries there.
its possible that a mealie could of bit him yes, you add pics by hosting them on www.photobucket.co.uk and copy and paste the direct link in to a reply

i know crickets stink to high heaven lol have you tried feeding him on locusts ? our love them

the only thing i would advise to change is the vit powder is it nutrobal? if so thats for dusting the crickets or mealworms not leaving in the viv
you need pure calcium in the viv its called calypso

Ok that looks like an abcess take him to the vets hun, it may need to be drained and some anitbiotics administered.

Also covering the back and sides of his tank may be of use to make him feel more secure and putting moss in the hides will help him shed

Let us know how you get on
