Any info, advice etc on tokays, i know they can be hard to handle etc already have a leo and a beardie between me and my b.f but looking at getting a tokay(or a few!) more for ornamental value so to speak! does anyone own one on here?any help would be appreciated, thanks x
thanks, the guy at our local reptile shop said once they bite they just dont let go till theyre good and ready haha thats why we have decided to leave the tokay until after having a few we can easily handle! but they are very attractive and wont be kept at mine so im not too bothered! lol thanks anyhow x
haha ohh well ive seen some amazing vids on youtube of fully tame tokays just how my leo is! but this is clearly a rare occurence! i dont know really what to do, we just want something different to the norm!
The guy at my local reptile place said that "Tokays are the crocodiles of the gecko world, they're nasty, once they bite you they won't let go" that puts me off having one even for ornamental value, how you gonna feed something that will try to snap at you every time you put your hand in and also if it gets out, you'll probably have a hard time putting it back in its viv lol...

Old thread but it has to be said, Tokay geckos are not aggressive at all, they are just extremely defensive and shy. You can't "tame" them but you can get them used to you and if they don't see you as a threat then you get to see their other side which is a very curious and loving gecko!
They can be tammed, IF your willing to be bitten etc and ALOT of hard work. They also don't like to be handled so if you look at it from a stress point of view it's not doing them any good!
Mine a fully handleable,if your worried about getten bitten wear gloves or put the hand you gonna hold them with in vinegar they hate it and if they do bite they will taste the vinegar and let go thats what i did now they are as tame as leos.
