Awww very pretty the only thing i would say that needs to change is the setup
The sand really shouldnt be in there and they dont need a uv tube at all as they are nocturnal animals.
Also you said in another post that one of them is still scared that could be because it a glasstank. It may help to cover the side of the tank up.
Do they have a moist hide?
Hi, Thanks for the info, will take that into account!
The blue light comes from a single LED which we put in to simulate moonlight. only shines in that one corner up on the rock as it is fixed into a piece of driftwood suspened from the top of the Viv.
We keep the Thermo mat on all the time and have a purple/blue bulb on during the day. Daytime we have the tank at about 88 / 90F and at night let it drop to around 70 / 75 with just the heat mat on.
They have 3 hides in total, the big rock at th back is hollow and has 2 hidey holes for them to get in and out, they have an exo-terra hide on the side of the glass with a cover which is attached on the outside by magnet and a moist hide with kitchen towl and a bit of spagnum moss which i spray daily.
They also have a few bits of driftwood to hide under and some fake plants!
Aw they are cute! Your setup is great too...I used to have sand but changed to reptile carpet because the worms kept burying themselves lol. My gecko had sand for about 3 weeks before I changed it and he was fine so I don't think it is a major issue to have sand.
How old are your girls? My male gecko Elvis looks the same size but yours seem so tame, Elvis tries to nip me or run away whenever I attempt to hold him and I've had him a month now! Any tips would be great!
i will however be keeping mine on kitchen towel till its 6 inches long so its digestive system is large enough to cope with fine sand but i wont use calci sand
The geckos seem very happy in their home! I have had to drain the waterfall and it is now a feature climbing wall for them! lol. The pump broke and i'm not a happy bunny, but they seem to like it more now it is empty! hmm maybe naughty geckos broke it on purpose! lol
Taming them: I started taking them out (one at time) in their magnetic rock. I would sit with it on my lap and let them come out when they were ready to. I would put my and in front and they would come out and lick it and slowly but surely, they built up confidence and now when I put my hand in Tifa will walk onto it and let me take her out. She loves to come out and watch the football with us! she is facinated by it and will sit on my hand and stare at the TV.
At first I would only keep them out for a very short while and one trick I learnt was to give her a mealie or 2 when you put them back in! this way she associated coming out for cuddles with a good thing, like getting food!
Aries is still a bit shy but is getting much better. She does not like any noise when she comes out and is an early morning bird!
I'm not sure how old they are, I have had them for about 1 1/2 months now and was told that they were probably around 10 mths old wen i got them!
They have grown loads since i got them tho! here are some more pics!
