Default Sheding/growth spurt - 22-09-2010, 08:43 PM

Hi all hope your all doing ok and your gecko's are all in good shape.

Over the summer months Ecko didn't really seem to shed much she shed maybe every 6-7 weeks, however over the past 9 weeks she has suddenly shed 3 times?

She's eating the same amount of food all poo's etc sheds are fine and normal and she seems in good spirits it just struck me as odd that she suddenly seems to be shedding a lot more now that the weather seems to be cooling down.

I can't weigh her at the moment as the battery in the scales are flat but her body mass/weight appears the same.

I'm hoping it's just a growth spurt/seasonal thing?

Any ideas advice?

how old is she now? Up to about 10 months or so or when they reach adult size then mine can shed every 3-4 weeks before slowing down to about every 5-6 weeks or so
It could be that she's going through a growth spurt but ideally you need to know what weight/how much weight she'd put on .... best get the scales fixed

Cheers Sleepy, She's about a year and 3 months old now.

Like a prize plank I've bought the wrong size battery for the scales so I'm going to try and weigh her tomorrow provided I manage to remember the correct battery.

Hi,

I have done this so many times! Brought the wrong battery for my scales!

Fortunately, last time i went the man at the stall where i get them from recognised me and knew exactly what i needed!

Why on earth do the modern sclaes have to run on unusually large 'watch' like batteries! What's wrong with AA's!! :-P

All the best,
Casp.

How was it to get a battery!

Have weighed Ecko and she has put on a little bit of weight, only 1/2g, hard to tell as she kept trying to climb out the tub.

Everythnig else seems fine, so hope I'm just worrying over nothing.

I've found that my leos tend to put more weight on and shed more often during spring and autumn. During winter they slow down and eat a little less, and in Summer they tend to sleep a lot and be less interested in their food. I think it's normal for them to suddenly increase their appetite in the Autumn, as in the wild they would be preparing for the almost-hibernation of winter, so they're building up their fat stores.

I wouldn't worry about it so long as she seems otherwise well.

HTH
