Default Shedding - or more appropriately, not shedding completely.. - 01-11-2010, 01:31 AM

Hi,

Thanks to all those who've previously helped me with a number of things on here, am glad to say that my CG ownership experience thus far has been very good and the little 'un seems to be doing very well.

I do, however, have a question about shedding. He's recently shed, with the exception of a small 'band' underneath his belly, just behind his front legs. It's been there some time and hasn't yet come away. Since it's been a few days, I've just tried gently 'snagging' an edge but it seems to be fairly well-attached and I've since left it alone as I don't want to do anything that would hurt him.

What should I do if this doesn't come away naturally over the next few days? I'd assumed he'd 'rub it off' in the course of walking around in the viv etc, but it's been there a while now.

Any thoughts would be gratefully accepted.

Oh, and he's getting a viv upgrade for the winter; a second ExoTerra Compact Canopy has been ordered, along with a red heat lamp and a thermostat. I've been worrying that he may get a little cold as winter approaches, and will be far happier knowing that the tank will only drop to a minimum temperature..

If the littlun still has a problem with retained shed, try putting 1cm or so of lukewarm water in a cricket tub and place your crestie in the tub for 10 - 15 minutes (it's best not to leave him unattended while he's in there, just to be on the safeside). Soaking in the 'sauna' may be enough to remove the shed, though you may need to gently rub the shed with a moistened cotton bud to remove it fully. Make sure that the shed is thoroughly wetted before attempting to remove it though, as pulling at it while it's still dry and firmly attached can damage the underlying skin.
