hey all,
I recently got my first reptile, a lovely LG called Gizmo who unfortunatly went back to the store today, he had become very stressed with the move as I only got him on 26th and had lost his tail and was refusing to eat.
I spoke with the store who breeds them and he knew I was feeling bad about it and was panicking he said to bring him back (the gecko was 6 weeks old) and he would give me another one and nurse the gecko back to health. I really didn't expect the store to do this but he is a great breeder and obviously cares for his animals. As hard as it was to part with Gizmo I felt it was in his best interest to get better as he was obviously unsettled.
Anyway I got back from the store this evening with my new LG and I am pleased to say he has fitted straight in and has been eating and even posed for a few pictures.
I have decided to call him Tazz as he is like a whirlwind and seems to really be a lot happier, I don't know if this is because I am less stressed or not. I know there is a big debate with the types of substrate being used and I have a 2ft Long wooden viv, The store where I got the Leo from had them on a very fine play sand and obviously I had done a lot of research about it but because he had them on sand I took his advice and added a small amount of sand to my tiled and slate vivarium. I am not using a heat mat as I have a good bulb and my temperature in there is at least 84F and that is at ground level.
I will obviously keep an eye on how Tazz goes with the sand and if there are any signs I will of cause get him straight off and just tile the rest of the area (probably only about 1/5 of the viv is sand)
Here is a picture of Tazz on the prowl
