Smile New To Gecko's - 29-08-2010, 07:27 PM

Hi

We have just taken on a Leo, about 2 years & Male (from looking online).

He is on kitchen paper at the moment, how safe is sand for him ?

As we have heard of impaction problems.

We are adding calcium to his diet, water & dusting his food.

Does this sound ok ?

He is fed a mix of crickets & locasts & may have a waxworm as a treat (mostly fed those before).

Are they happy alone ? or prefer a mate ?

Any tips appreciated, we have done our homework on the net.

I prefer using non-loose substrates such as lino, tiles, slate etc ~ sand can pose problems

If you mean you have a dish of calcium powder plus are dusting his food with either calcium or vits etc then yes that sounds fine

well gutloaded crickets, locusts, mealies etc are all fine though I persoanlly don't feed waxxies as they can be fattening and addictive for leos

leos are perfectly happy living on their own ~ they don't need company

there's more info which may be of help on my website care sheets

Hi

Many thanks for the reply.

He is fed gutloaded crickets & locasts, they are fed ProReptile Gutload Pro-Formula.

He has a dish with calcium powder, crickets are either dipped in the calcium powder, his vitamin powder given with him or Arkvits.

He has just got, Calcimize Calcium Drinking Water Conditioner (Exo Terra), takes out chlorine & adds calcium.

He lives in a new glass tank, 60cm long by 45 by 45 with a moist box & 2 hides. A 7 watt heat matt, built in light (daylight).

Tank was supplied with a heat spot light, does he need this ? As I belive the light is not nessary.

May have to post a picture, as not sure what morph he is.

Albino Hypo, rings a bell. Bright yellow, no markings on back, brown markings on head & tail, tail paler almost white in places.
