Default new gecko owner - prob panicking?? - 22-04-2008, 12:54 PM

The leopard geckos i have are the first reptiles i have in my keeping, i have read as much as i possibly could, and yet found out that every book, reptile 'expert' is telling me different!! im confused lol so, in my research i have found geckos are meant to be shedding 4-6 weeks, but i have not seen Maishu and Kai shed???? i have also read been nocturnal they can shed throughout the night, and eat their shedded skin, there are no remains or any signs they have or are shedding, my geckos seem dull, but they was when i brought them, their was 4 in a vivariam, and i brought two, i read that if kept in groups, or more than one, they wont be as 'bright' as they would when they were kept on their own??? is this true?
i have had my geckos for a month now - they are 7 mnths old, i have brought some moss for them, but i dont leave it in their, i have also attempted to bath them in warm water, to see whether that will help the process.

Maishu's tail is not as fat as Kai's, but heres the catch, i brought Maishu and Kai the same way i have them now, i have even attempted with putting 10 crickets in the vivariam, then taking them out before i go to bed, but quite alot is left, i have now decreased the amount i give them, Maishu seems to not be suffering, as she is eating, i know this as her tail is not getting thinner, it stays the same, she is longer then Kai which is probably the reason.

please help!!

They shed when they need to tbh as they grow they will shed less

i have also read been nocturnal they can shed throughout the night, and eat their shedded skin, there are no remains or any signs they have or are shedding, my geckos seem dull, but they was when i brought them, their was 4 in a vivariam, and i brought two, i read that if kept in groups, or more than one, they wont be as 'bright' as they would when they were kept on their own??? is this true?

NO not true at all we keep all of our leos in groups it could be down to the temps you are keeping at
i have had my geckos for a month now - they are 7 mnths old, i have brought some moss for them, but i dont leave it in their, They should always have access to moss in a moist hide this will help them shed you can make a moist hide out a sandwich tub with a hole in the lid
i have also attempted to bath them in warm water, to see whether that will help the process.
If you have never caught them in shed and they have never had any problems then you dont need to bath them at all tbh it will just stress them out

The reason is probably that the larger female is more domiant than the smaller one and the smaller one is getting less food which can be a problem when kept together

please help!!

They are the standard morph.

i feel alot better about my girls now, i think i was panicing alot when i first had them being my first reptiles, i since took them the vets and she agreed it to be a dominant thing, and basically said what you wrote down. shedding has not become a issue now, i let them get on, i just check them over every night when i get home from work, i look at there feet etc, make sure they are ok. There tails seemed to have evened out a bit, so im not panicing now, and they look beautiful when they have had a shed, i think they are happy and healthy they are a nice bright yellow, with healthy purple and black. There happy im happy

I am more relaxed now, and im living with my partner who has a male bearded dragon.

They never cease to amaze me!
