Default New to Crested Geckos - 14-08-2009, 02:55 PM

Hi, Im going to get a pet Crested Gecko,
I went to a local Exotic Pet Shop today and they said that my Crested Gecko would need a Heat Mat and a lamp.
Yet on the internet I heard that you dont need a Heat Mat, and you only need an infa-red 50wattage lamp.
Could some people tell me what they use regarding there heat resources.
Many Thanks

In most homes the room temperature will provide enough warmth. Cresties should be kept at 70 to 80 farenheight with 72 to 78 being the ideal. If you set the enclosure up with a digital thermometer you can monitor the temps.

You should not let the enclosure get above 80 as this can cause serious health issues to the Crested Gecko. Cresties overheat very easily and become stressed.

They are fantastic little creatures, just make sure that you do all your research before buying (which I can see you are) and post some pics so we can all see him/her when you get them!
