I've got a gecko who is about year and bit old, have never given her calcium supplement, but she seems healthy, feed her meal worms cricket with a splash of vitamen powder.. do you think she needs thes calcium?

Calcium is essential as it helps to strengthen bones, so it is important for a gecko.

Gutloading does provide a lot of nutrients etc but it's better to be safe than sorry.

I dust all live food that goes in the viv with calcium powder and then at weekends I use nutrobal.

I've also got a small dish of calcium in the viv 24/7 so that the gecko's can help themselves as and when and they do top themselves up with it.

I too am led to believe calcium deffecincy is common in captive lizards & can lead to Metabolic Bone Disease.

My gecko was sold to relatives with vit powder, calcium powder & told to dust 1 day calcium, next vit powder & a bottle top of calcium powder in the viv at all times.

We follow this rule & use calcimize in the water.

Did see a vet programme on telly, a little boy's gecko had no suppliments & he was going to put him down (the gecko) but instead tried to implement calcium to help save the little guy as he had broken bones.

To look at the gecko, you wouldn't have thought there was much wrong, but the X Rays were clear.
