We purchased 12 Mediterraneum House Geckos about 3 weeks ago and have found over half of them dead already. So I know we are doing something wrong. Since we live in eastern part of USA, we have humid weather they like (so I understand) and we do keep shallow dishes of water out for them. We purchased them from a reputable pet store, brought them home and turned them loose in our kitchen. Within 24 hours 4 of the smallest were dead. Within 48 hours we saw a significant decrease in the roach population. During the last couple of weeks we have seen several of the larger geckos that looked healthy (were alert with clear eyes). But we found even one of them dead yesterday.
Any information speaking to our situation would be appreciated; and do not be concerned about hurting our feelings. Constructive criticism is definately welcomed
I've never had house geckos. But I went on holiday to america and saw loads in the house and they seamed to be fine.So don't know what your doing wrong cos we did nothing specil to help them live and they were as happy as can be.I think this was in the florida keys, near the eviaglades (the place full of aligators )
I didn't know you were in the US..... silly me! It makes more sence now what your doing? I assumed you were in the UK! Sorry about that.
I know ist may sound stupid but how old are the geckos & what size roaches are they eating? could it be impact killing them? Is there any chance that the roaches could of been near any deadly chemicals that they are immune to but the geckos are not?
It might be worth taking one of them to a vet to find out why they died. I'd suspect either poision/toxins somehow, or they have picked up parasites from somewhere.
