Smile Natural terrarium-please help! - 11-01-2011, 08:23 PM

Hi all!

New to the forum and a new Leo owner, I would appreciate some ideas and help improving my terrarium. At the moment in time I am using calcisand, I have heard this is a bad idea - what do you recommend that will keep in with the natural desert appeal. I have a large rock cave with moss in as a hide, a worm dish, water dish, half a coconut in the colder area and a big log tunnel style thing but all in all looks a mess! I really want to be able to build something similar to

I love the appeal of ones such as http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/870/dscn3187si5.jpg but obviously don't even know where to start when it comes to building my own and would much prefer to pay out for some bits and bats to get me going. I have the Exo-terra medium terrarium which is a nice size and needs some improvements!

I would really really REALLY appreciate some expert advice on this matter!

Best regards,
Glenn

Best stuff to use for flooring is either vinyl tiles as they come in a range of colours and effects or really thin slate/tiles.

Leopard Gecko's don't actually come from the desert.

It would be best to get rid of the claci sand as it can cause some real problems long term.

As for trying to create a stunning looking viv it's really only you that can decide.

I find fake branches vines and plants help to really make it look good though.

I've just come across a "Lucky reptile - terra cliff set" - do you know if these are good or not?

I've never actually seen 1 close up, so couldn't really offer a fair comment.

If your trying to make rocky ledges etc you could always try your local builders yard for broken old bits of slab. York stone looks and works great.

This is why I think fake plants/vines look great and there easy to clean.

The dens are the exo terra magnet dens.
