Default introducing a new leo to 2 elders - 13-03-2010, 05:13 PM

Hi i have to leos one female and a male who have lived together for quite a while, and as its mating time (so ive been told) my female is getting alot of attention which i dont think she quite needs so they have quite some time apart at night being handled. Ive just gone and fetched a new female leo to house with them which ive been told is an early 09 hatch which would make her round about a year old. The size difference isnt amazing but the male already seems curious and shaking his tail so fast its almost vibrating and has tried to bite her tail is this aggression? ive been keeping an eye out and my female dont seem bothered by her. im just wondering if its a good idea to keep them separate at night and just gradually introduce them any help would be great.

1 She has been quarantined for over a month
2 She is of similar size
3 The viv is large enough for them all and enough hides have been supplied

Thanks

TBH I'm no expert I'm just going on what I have read and learnt from other people on the boards, I would advise not to even house the male and female together not even with the new female.

2 Female Leo's can live together, well it's more a case of tolerate each other really.

Male Leo's from what I have learnt have huge sex drives which can actually damage a female Leo.

I know a lot of pet shops go for the harem idea of 1 male and lots of females, but this can again produce an awful lot of stress on the females.

You would be better off attempting to house your 2 females together rather than chucking them both in with the male. If you do house your females together you will still have to watch out for signs of dominance/bullying. Even 2 females in a viv together still might not get on and adding a male to the picture is most likely only going to cause a lot more stress.

I'm no expert I'm only going on what I have learn't from these forums and other peoples kind words of advice.

Unless you want your Leo's to breed then I really would keep them separate to avoid any upset or potential fight.

I'm sure better more experienced keepers will be able to help you alot more, these are just my thoughts and words going from what others have told me.

Thanks i was thinking of seperating the male atleast til he has calmed down because he is very full on. maybe just wait til after season to house them together when the female puts him back in his place as he seemed to be really relaxed and she was a lot more playful when i was first given them.

thanks again
