Question Hey all looking for advice - 10-07-2010, 04:09 PM

Hi iv been looking at getting a leo or two for a while now and have been looking around at all the different vivs and habitats on the market and i was wondering if anyone knew of good start up kits or store in the northwest that i could get everything i need for a good price. Any advice on keeping these little guys would be great too .

Cheers,
Adam

Hi Adam and welcome to the forum.

To be honest, I'm not really a fan of starter kits: they always seem to include stuff that you don't need, while at the same time missing out some essential equipment. Try checking out SleepyD's website: not only does it include some excellent advice on leo care, but it also includes a list of all the equipment that you really do need to get started, so you can compare that with the contents of any kits that you're considering.

With regard to shops in the northwest, the Reptile Room in Thornton Cleveleys has an excellent reputation. There's also Viper and Vine in Manchester, which is frequently recommended (though I've never visited it myself).

Hey i'd recommend a vivarium which is preferably at least 15 gallon for one leopard gecko, bigger for two

I've recently had to have a look around for a good vivarium and would recommend a wooden style one as it retains the heat much better.

I'd advise not to go for a pets at home type starter kit as it doesn't include essentials and the one i looked at for leos was a glass one.

Best places are any local specialist reptile stores you can find, i personally had to travel an hour to Birmingham but it was worth it ! Also reputable online suppliers could have good vivs.
