Default Help! young Leopard Gecko not feeding - 07-12-2010, 10:00 PM

Hi I am new to reptile keeping.I got 2 baby leopard geckos a few weeks ago from a private breeder. One gecko is about 16 weeks old and the other about 4 weeks younger. The older one is feeding and growing well but the younger one doesn't seem interested in food and doesn't take any notice when I put the crickets in and is getting thinner and thinner.I tried taking him out of the tank and putting the food in a smaller container with him but he still wasn't interested.

hi and welcome , some leo's take a week or so to settle in to there new surounds , but you have to make sure they are warm enough , especially at the moment , try to feed the small mealworms , it might be the crickets are too big , im sure the breeder will advice you aswell if your worried

Smile New leopard gecko - 08-12-2010, 11:28 AM

Hi, I've just gotten a new leopard gecko to called Shiloh. S/he is only 7weeks old. So far Shiloh is only eating a few crickets each evening, usually 2 or 3. I got a little worried the other day when s/he shed and did not eat for 2 days afterward, but I have been assured that this is all part of the setling in process and that provided there is no noticable weight loss, and that all the temperatures are correct that everything should right its self soon enough. I hope your lil critter starts feeding soon.

Thanks guys for your replies.I took him to an exotic vets and he is very thin and was dehydrated. They also found he has some internal paracites so has Metronidazole for that. They gave him some liquid food in a syringe and have given me some for him as well as some electrolyte liquid. They want to see him again in 7days.He is more lively already, so fingers crossed.
