Default Help!!! - 27-11-2007, 10:16 AM

Hi!!
Really need some advice on what to do. Got a letter yesterday saying that next tuesday they are going to switch the electricity off for 8 hours!!
I live in a cold cottage and i don't know how i'm going to keep my gecko warm! I thought of taking him to college because they keep reptiles here and they have some spare tanks but this might stress him out too much.
I thought of a hot water bottle but not sure if it'll stay warm enough for 8 hours.
Anyone got any ideas?

hi, you could use the same method as the do to transport reptiles and other livestock. you could get a polystrine fish container from any fishmongers or you local supermarket if they have a fresh fish counter then simply cut a hole in the top so you can still view your gecko by selotaping a polypocket inplace to make a window then either put your heat mat underneath or buy a disposable heat bag but make sure that its gunna stay warm for the duration. hope this is of some help to you and your little fella stays warm.

A hot water bottle would work but only for a couple of hours, if you have a gas cooker then you could boil up some more water.

Alternatively as Shele said, you can use disposable heat packs. You can get them from camping shops like blacks or millets and they are sold as hand warmers.

I think my dad might have some of those hand warmers! Thanks for your help! Will see how long the hand warmers stay warm for and then can put one at a time in the tank when the other gets cold.
Cheers!

Just thought i'd let you know that steve was fine during the power cut. He had a nice hot water bottle and seemed to really enjoy sitting on the towell. May get him a small towell to keep in there permanently. Probably because its much softer and more comfortable to sit on then wood chips.
