Default help please worried about my gecko - 16-09-2010, 11:08 PM

hi my gecko richie is worrying she has not ate properly for two days and today ate nothing even tho i presented her with all maner of foods i recently cleaned her cage and have been trying to examine her but she is VERY skittish she looks fine is pooping fine and is not showing any other sighns of illnes, she is abit skinnier than her tank mate seth who is about half the size bigger than her now ( a big eater ) also one of them has just shed but i did not catch whitch one.

should i leave her for a day or so longer and just hope it is stress or see if i can find a vet to see her

also i only bought her a week ago that could have stressed her alot

stats

she was on sand in the pet shop but i have her on kitchen towl

heated with mat: hot 89 f ambient low temp 104 f on floor / cold 75 f

useing liquid calcium drops that take clorine out of the water

if you need any more info just ask and ill supply

thank you,
Bryan Cann

it may be that she has recently shed though there's a good chance that she may be being pestered/bullied by her tank mate.... are they both females or male/female?
It's not unknow for two females to fight/stress another equally if the viv mate is a male he may be harrasing her to mate ~ I'd recommend seperating richie into her own viv where there is no smell etc of seth

they are both female as far as i know they are about 4 months and the only one that lets me hold them is seth and seth is not showing any male sighns yet but the faster growth may be a sighn of that (not shure if im right on that one) and has a slightly wider head and neck.

i have not seen any sighns of bullying richie is not avoiding seth in fact follows seth around alot, richie lies on top of seth in thier hides and there are no wounds on either of them exept for a small scar on seths head but that was already there before i bought them.

"BUT" i cant monitor them at night can i so i will see how todays feeding go's then if she is still not feeding i will re house her in a seperate tank.

again thanks sleepydee for your sound advice and hopfully i will see you at the prc meeting

if all the set-up, temps etc are good then richie may just be getting used to new surroundings ~ would leave the food there for her (mealie dish etc) and let her get used to it quietly ~ would also weigh her on a regular basis to make sure that there's no weight loss. If she does any poop it may also be advantagious to have it tested for parasites etc as well.
Will be at the PRC next week so can chat then
