Unhappy Help my leopard is ill! - 16-08-2007, 10:12 PM

My gecko Sport has a bulge is his cloacal opening. It almost looks like a herniated testical, but there is something stuck inside the opening. I think it might be a very dry piece of fecal matter. We do not have any vets in our area who will treat herps.
I have just started soaking him in a shallow bowl of warm water with a little bit of mineral oil, and I'm trying to get him to eat a wax worm with some oil on it, to see if I can dislodge it. Please if you have any suggestions I am all ears. I can be reached at liz@staffcarpet.com
Thank you in advance for any replies I recieve.

I don't really know what to suggest apart from soaking in warm water. I think it really needs a vet :/

We are taking him out of town to a vet tomorrow. Unfortunately we don't have any vets here in town that see exotics so we are in for a 2 hour drive.
After having done all the things that were suggeted by the vet over the phone with no improvement, we have started to worry that it is a tumor rather than an impaction.
I will let you all know how he's doing tomorrow

Hello 10lizard, I hope everything is ok. I'm no expert but it could be a prolapsed hemipenes. - dehydration is just one of the causes.

just in case it is a prolapsed hemipenis, keep it moist on the way to the vet. (pop him on moist kitchen towel (paper towel) - especially with a 2 hour drive.

let us know how it goes.

just a bit of reading that might help if it is a prolapse
