How do you have your heat mats positioned if you have a glass tank?
I have read they should not be stuck to the glass as it could cause the glass to crack.
I have a heat mat under the bottom of the tank with my african land snails (i know its a different species but still a glass tank) as long as you have it on a thermostat it wont become too hot and it will not cause it to crack... as long as there is no cracks in the glass before you put the heat mat under it.
With glass viv's personally I have always raised them up off the surface using thin timbers.
This allows the cool air to circulate under the /tankheat matt and help prevent cracking as I have seen a friends tank crack before (and it was on a thermostat).
I used to have glass tank, pretty much an old aquarium. I had heat mat under half of it to get the right temperature (because with just basking lamp was a too low) and i never had any problems with glass. I had this glass tank for 2 months and heat mat was heating 24/7 and nothing happened to glass.
