Question fighting females! - 08-02-2010, 12:06 PM

i have 3 females and a male leo.eldest is blind in 1 eye but other than that all healthy.ive had all of them except the male since they were all 5/6weeks old

swallow weighs 55g 12years old
lick weighs 52g 9years old
stripy weighs 50g 6years old
tigger(male) weighs 48g 18months

swallow went blind in 1 eye about 2years ago but is still eating/pooing/shedding well. the trouble is now all of a sudden they seem to attack each other whenever live food is introduced to the tank.
to start with i wondered if it was because swallow couldnt see properly what she was eating then thought maybe it was tigger who was introduced to the girls in september 2009.tigger was brought from a private house sale and was only ever handfed waxworms so it took awhile to get him into the habit of catching locusts for himself(he was quite over weight when i got him but now looks nice and healthy)
but the problem i have is that they are fine when not being fed.
they all live in a 4ft tank that has 5 different hides in there but they all tend to squeeze into the same ones and r very rarely apart.
for the moment i am seperating them at "mealtimes" to feed them all seperately so there is no more fighting.why would they start attacking each other now after years of being together?
ne ideas???

because leo's are not really social and they can and often will fight whether they've been together just a short while or a long period of time.
I would recommend seperating them all into their own vivs/rubs as chances are sooner or later the fights will become more damaging/serious.
Also having introduced a male to the group sooner or later the pheromones/hormones are going to kick in and females will compete/fight for the best egglaying area (even if there are plenty of hides) and over food ~ even more so if they're gravid (pregnant) .......... I hope that you have all the necessary equipement ie incubator, hatchling rubs etc ready.

I'd be a bit concerned also with regards the ages of the females especially the nine and twelve year olds as generally most breeders retire females from breeding well before the leo's reach those ages.
