hello im thinking about getting a lepoard gecko and i have tried to read as much as i can online but have a few questions.
where do most people keep their geckos? im thinking of having them in my living room, i have a nice unit to place the vivarium on which is not near a window and not in a draft, but not sure if this i s a good idea or not?, with the tv being in there and obv when i have people round, noise ect?
with the kit im thinking of getting it comes with everything so it says.
when maintaining the temp do you just rely solely on the heat mat? or do you need a light as well?
i know you need to try and get a day and night cycle going, obv with the change of temp, but in the day do you have to have a light on all the time to give the impression of day? my living room is fairly well lit with natural day light anyway.
i also have two cats, does anyone else have cats and keep a gecko as well?
gecko will have plenty of hides anyway but just a thought.
sorry if questions seem silly i just want to get a better idea of whats involved
hi gav
i dont have my leos yet but i do have 3map turtles and a musk turtle and i was told they should be in a quite room but to be honest, they love the attention!! not sure how similar the situations are but in my previous home the living room for my turtles was the only option and they've always been happy in company, and are still very active even with a room full of people
Ive only just registered today gav,,
But i thought although a bit late now , I have my leopard gecko in my living room along with 2 beardie vivs and i have had no problems , i also have 2 dogs that done seem to bother it .
I run about 8 hrs daylight for mine using one of the eco coily type bulbs so it doesn't create any extra heat thats on a timer. The main heat source is a heat mat placed UNDER the viv which is important as not to burn the gecko. I have a water bowl fresh every day and i feed cricks, locust and waxworms as a treat. They need a supply of calcium so i put calcium powder on a large pebble in the viv.
hope this helps
