Default Feeding a baby gecko - 10-08-2010, 08:54 PM

Hi all

I was looking for some advice. I've had my gecko for 2 nights. I've a bowl of mealworms which she's not used but I've fed her both days using tongs. I'm thinking that I should probably stop this as she might start expecting food coming to her instead of her finding it herself. Can anyone advise me? I was pretty suprised that she's eaten so many considering she's just arrived

Thanks

I've had my Gecko about a year now and when i first got him i fed him a couple mealies via the tounges but then lured him to the Dish by making him see whats inside. I suggest you do this.

I've never used tongs to feed any of mine, they wouldn't get it in the wild. Usually they take a few days to settle in anyway. As soon as she learns where the food bowl is she should start eating from it. If she's still not eating mealies you could always try some small crickets as they're a bit more lively. Hope this helps

hi ~ young leos should be fed as much well gutloaded livefood as they can eat every day ~ my young ones all go through 10-15+ livefood each night (minimealies, crickets, locusts, roaches)
one trick with mealies is to place a small piece of apple in their dish ~ this keeps them wriggling which in turn attracts the leo

I tend to use the tongs to drop the worms infront of my little ones so they see them then they chase them around the tank. theyre such a handfull and cheeky i even found my youngest baby pinching the worms then hiding them in a toilet roll tube from the others so had to put a stop to that lol. so i keep and eye on them now throw a worm in for each of them at a time so i can see who eats what and how many to make sure theres no hogging the food.

I feed all of mine from 7pm onwards when they're becoming more active
