Our 2 Leopard Geckos seem fine with the Exo Terra background.
The first thing they did when they saw it was climb up it, it has taken them about a week to figure out how to reverse and climb down tho!
Ours is cut to size in a 4ft converted fish tank, so there are no gaps for any life food to escape under, but we also tend to feed the Geckos a cricket at a time, which does not have the chance to get to the background before it is eaten!
It seems that these backgrounds, whilst aesthetically pleasing, are only successful if they are a tight secure fit to the back of the vivarium, with no gaps for live food to escape through. It also depends on how active your Geckos are and if they like climbing it.
I have been successful with my background and all other Exo Terra products I have in my vivarium, but it all comes down to trial and error, seeing what fits in your viv, and what your Geckos like.

However I am using them in a converted fish tank so I did have to cut them down slightly to get them in, but it did create a nice snug fit!

My 2 run up them every now and then but they seem to be able to reverse back down ok.
lol revel enjoys climbing up and down the background at least 5-10 times a day, she just cant get enough i dont think!

and yes they must think they are spiderman!

(which i thought was unusual for leos) she used to climb right to the top and then get herself upside down on the wire mesh roofing and walk round in circles realising that she couldnt get back down again!!

so i had to cut about an inch off the top and now she will climb up there for the toilet and wander back down again, and if any crickets do go up the top she eat them up there. any worms are in a dish so they dont escape.

cutting the top off ment i was left with two spaces at the back where the wires go but i stuck some kitchen roll in the gaps so nothing can go and hide.

this has seemed to work well.

I no the feeling, my 2 used to dig at the bottom and climb round a corner and disappear up the back of it. they would stay there all the time so i used 2 big rocks to cover the corners. Then they figured out climbing the front and crawling round the wire mesh at the top. Its only when they started diving at the light i became worried so took the whole thing out and now use aquarium backing with the pretty pictures to cover the wires and then i gave them something a little safer to climb
