Smile Echo the Gecko - 02-09-2008, 08:50 AM

Hello, I am a the proud owner of my very first gecko, she is a Bell Albino and just over a month old. I have her in an old fish tank with slate tiles, heat mat, mat-stat, a moss box (no moss in it yet) at the cool end & some hiding areas at the warm end. She has a little water tray and a small tray of calcium powder. Currently, I have some small (silent) crickets in there (with some veg so they don't get hungry & nibble on her)

I haven't seen her eat yet (only had her 2 days), but I have seen her drink and there is poo in the empty moss box. I am getting moss today and some mealworms. I am looking for a good digital thermometer online at the mo too.

Anything I need to change or add?

Thanks
Neil

You could try covering the back and sides of the tank so she feels more secure

Thanks for the reply, was beginning to think this place was empty!!

I have covered the sides as I read that helps. I have also re-arranged a little so the moss box is now on the warm side (she spends all day in there now) and there are hiding places on warm and cool sides.

She seems to like me feeding her, she eats loads of mealworms if I hand feed her, I did spot her taking some from the food tray the other night, but she seems to prefer me to do it for her (lazy!!)

She seems to be settling in OK, though I don't see much of her most evenings, she tends to hide a lot!

What are the temps in the viv?
Also as for the hand feeding i wouldnt let that become a habbit as sweet as it is they tend to get very lazy and then will only hand feed.

The forum is a lil slow of late as the admin has had a few problems but he should be back soon to start some changes
