Default bearded dragon in a fish tank? - 08-04-2009, 08:26 PM

obviously without the water!
i have a fat tailed gecko and now my gf wants a bearded dragon as her dad always had lizards when she was a kid.
i dont really have the money to spend on a big tank BUT my dad wants rid of his fish tank.
its 4ft wide 18inches deep and 18inches high, would it possible to keep a dragon in a tank that size? if so what sort of things would i need to add to the tank to make it "liveable"
any help is great thanks

hi, to me this seems a tad too small, i have mine in a 4x2x2... the depth is very important as they need to be able to turn around easily, and the majority of beardies get bigger than that, they also like to climb aswell, making height important. its a decent size for a juvenile but you would soon have to get another tank as they get very big in only a few months.

which area do you live? because if its the north west i know a brilliant shop that delivers and the vivs are extremely cheap... £89 for a 4x2x2. if not try going onto other forums and ask around for viv builders in your area.

i know it seems like alot of money at the start but from personal experience i know how expensive it can get to buy all the stuff for a smaller viv, only to have to replace it all along with another viv a few months down the line, x

bearded dragons need atleast 4x2x2FOOT. Plus a glass fish tank will make it too humid and hot. They need good ventilation. Also, the heat wont be able to escape properly, there will also be stagnent air.

If you haven't got the money to buy a "big" tank you haven't got the money to care for the lizard so just forget about it, at least for now.

You've got to be careful when going for these "complete seteups" as they often include things you don't need or things that can even be harmful to your lizard.
