Having seen this thread bumped I wondered if you might be able to shed some light on my latest difficulty! Dexter my banded gecko has been eating a little less as of last winter. I gave him some wax worms to buoy his spirits as usually they're his favourites - his tail was looking a little thin but if I'm honest, not markedly so. I went into the petshop to get some mealworms for him as he seems a bit off crickets, and the reptile centre bloke said I shouldn't give him mealworms constantly as I could give him gout. So I got some more crickets, and mentioned that Dex's tail was a bit thin. The reptile centre bloke said that his tail should look like a witchety grub and I should feed him lots of waxworms - about 6 at a time. He showed me a leopard gecko and said "That's what his tail should look like" but I thought - his tail's never looked like that .... he's a different type of gecko ... (and I told him he's a banded gecko)
Obviously the reptile centre bloke is going to know more than I do, but I don't think Dexter is supposed to have a bulbous root-of-the-tail. If he does then he has been lacking for a good 18 months!
I got him some waxworms and some small crickets which hopefully will be more to his delicate palate... he has only eaten 3 of the waxworms so far, so perhaps he really isn't that hungry?
Thanks to anyone who can help.
