Default any help??? - 25-05-2010, 10:32 PM

i've posted on here about my concerns about my gecko. im worried now as i've had him 3 weeks and have yet to see him eat. ive everything from mealworms, to waxworms & crickets but nothing. he just shrugs his head away or doesnt even look in his bowl. every time i thought he's eaten something i find it under the bowl or in the corner somewhere untouched.
ive uploaded a few pics of him so people can see what he looks like, i hope they help. also any idea what particular species of gecko he is? & if so do they eat certain things?

looks like an African Fat tail gecko. they need a slightly humid enviroment. you should mist you cage once a day some times they just go of food, or he might be impacted depending really on what substrate he is on or was on before you had him. sand clogs up the digestive system and is difficult to pass

from the pics I'd say your leo looks like a Blizzard morph Leopard Gecko.
with his eating though leos can occasionally take upto a week to settle in I would double check his hot end floor temps (88*f-90*f/31*c-32*c) to make sure they were okay as if the temps are too cool it can affect their appetite/digestion........ what is his set-up like, what are the hot end floor temps and how are you checking them?

the hot end temp tends to stay between 87 & 90* this is checked by a thermostat place at the same end as the heat mat. the general setup of the tank consists of 2 hides, 1 on the coold side & 1 on the hot side. theres a small plastic dish that i use to put his food in & a small dish for water. theres also a large heat rock in the corner but its not plugged in so just there as decoration.
i seem to get lots of different points of view as whats best. i bought a gecko starter kit from pets at home but ive been told the tank included is not right for geckos and is better suited to amphibians! (basically stay clear of pets at home!) ive since phoned the pet shop i got him from & he suggested turning off the heat mat at nite so he can tell theres a definite temp drop at nite so he can tell the difference between day & night to see if that would him him eat.
he does have regular bowel movements as i remove droppings every few days which would seem to suggest he is eating but i dunnooooo.
also by the looks of it no one seems to be sure what morph he is lol

ive got a similar problem , but has only been 5 days , my leo is out his den alot now , but doesnt appear to eat , drink or take his minerals , he's not as scared of my hand now , but i'm not handling him just yet , i think mine is a year or so old , about 8 inches long , I think not eating is a common problem with new leo's , love your colouring on the leo , looks all grey , mines a common spotted leo , none morph
be lucky
