Hi,
My partner and I have been keeping leopard geckos for three years and we started breeding this year. We had five successful hatches, four of which are very healthy happy geckos with nice fat tails and we have had no problems with them at all.
However, the last little gecko to hatch I am so worried about. She seems very happy and adjusted but she just wont eat!! At first I thought she was blind but I have come to realize that she is just very light sensitive so obviously I only put crickets in at night. She has never managed to eat one (even with me trying every night holding them with feeding tongs) and they were just stressing her out so I haven't put any in since)
I also put in a dish of meal worms, (and tried with feeding tongs) again she wouldn't touch them! Out of sheer desperation I put a few wax worms in and she did eat those. I know they are seriously not healthy for geckos so I started to mix in meal worms with the wax worms and after a week or so she was eating meal worms. I thought I was finally making progress!!....
But now she isn't touching anything again (not even wax worms). I appreciate geckos aren't very active at all in the winter but she hasn't eaten anything for at least 10 days!
She is still tiny, she hatched in August and she still looks the same size as when she came out of the egg.
She lives alone in a tank, the set up is the correct temperature. She has two hides (one warm, one cold). Plenty of fresh water. Kitchen towel for substrate. The food I put in is all gut loaded and dusted etc etc etc. She has had the same set up and care as the other 4 babies and as I said they are all very happy and healthy. We own 8 other Leo's all of which again are very healthy so I don't think I am doing anything wrong.... I just don't know what else to do!!!?
I obviously will take her to the vets in the next few days if she still hasn't touched her food I just wondered if any one has had a similar problem? Or any tips/ advice? She is such a beautiful, lovely little gecko and I just want her to be well
Thank you sooo much for your time and as I said any advice will be hugely appreciated!
