Default Advice re breeder/supplier please - 16-09-2010, 09:24 PM

We were about to buy 2 leopard geckos for my son and he had already chosen the ones he wanted but today I had a phonecall to inform me that most of their leopard geckos (including the ones he had chosen) have died from a bacterial infection (?crypto-sporidium). I was warned to be very careful when looking elsewhere as this infection is apparently a big problem at the moment. Can anyone advise me of a good breeder or supplier in or near the Cardiff (Wales) area as I am concerned to make sure that we buy healthy geckos at the start.
We are new to this and these will be our first geckos although my son has wanted some for a long time.

Thank you for any advice you can give

Hey,

I can understand your concerns. I may not be able to help you directly but hate reading and running!

I too wanted to purchase recently two healthy gecko's and did everything i can only to find i have concerns about one of the two's motions within a couple of days! (Of which i'm hoping my concerns will be resolved at the vets shortly)

Perhaps by from a reputable breeder rather then a reptile store.

Unfortunately i'm unsure as to any close to you! It may involve a ride out but i'm more then sure it would be worth it for peace of mind!

All the best,
Casp.

hi
if I remember correctly I think you recently emailed me about the shop/ geckos and your concerns ~ I'm sorry to hear that crypto was a possible cause... unfortunately there does seem to be a problem with that in some shops/suppliers.
with regards to private breeders near you there's a list of good private breeders I can heartily recommend on my website links page that are nearer to you then I am and who (if not near enough) may be able to put you in touch with someone who is

good luck

Hi there, don't know if this will be of any help, but I recently bought my baby leopard gecko from Dragon Reptiles at Pembroke, and they have a branch in Cardiff. They are very knowledgeable and helpful (well they are in Pembs, can't see they'd be different in Cardiff!) They keep all their babies in quarantine before sale, to make sure they're healthy. Sorry I can't manage a link to their website (doh!), but if you search Dragon Reptiles you'll find them.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.
