Smile Advice on heating - 27-11-2011, 02:21 PM

Hi everone,

Im knew to keeping reptiles, just need advice on how to heat the tank.
Ive got a 25watt heat mat that is on all the time, the temperture is always around 65-70 degrees what else could i use to get the tempture up to 72-78.
Was thnking of using a small wattage bulb on a thermostate.

I think my red crested gecko is about 4 months old , my tank is about 30x30x30 glass with a mesh top ..

Where in the tank are you testing for the temperature and how are you testing for the temperature, if its a analog stick on exo terra thermometer, those things are very random, and i've never had any reliable information from them

As its an exo terra tank you can get a Canopy for the top and put a bulb into that just make sure its a 2 or a 5 not a 10.

You can either buy a pulse thermostat for your heatmat that will keep your heatmat at whatever you set it to, or you can get the exo terra canopy + bulb and that should up the temperature in the higher part of the tank for the crestie to be able to thermoregulate its self (be warm when it wants and cold when it wants)

That is an awfully big tank for a little crestie too, hope he is finding his food etc.
