Red face Advice for bonding with a Leopard Gecko - 25-01-2012, 09:19 PM

Hey dudes and dudettes
I've got a leopard gecko, i bought him last saturday and he's a beautiful snow white colour ^^ He's great, and I think i'm feeding and keeping him properly because he seems to be quite happy (as far as someone who's never had a lizard can tell)
I'd say he's about a month or 2 old, if that. I guess he's kinda skittish because of this, and the fact i haven't had him very long, but he doesn't seem to want to be picked up very much.
Obviously, i have to pick him up now and again in order for him to get used to me, but he doesn't seem to like it and i don't want to upset him!
Do any of you more experienced guys have any tips on how i can get a little affection out of him?
Thanks in advance ^^

hi with young leos most are very skittish to start with but handling them and as they get older they tend to calm down.

the best thing to do is to try and handly it for short periods but often, if before you get it out put your hand near it in the viv to show your not a threat to it, then slowly pick it up, never just go in and grab it as it will be funny with you. have it out on your hands for about 5mins to start with then put it back in its home keep doing it every couple of days and as it gets less scared when your handling it then keep it out for a bit longer each time, it takes a while but it does work.

hope this helps
